Rep. Chaffetz: Investigation Into Clinton’s Handling Of Classified Info Will Continue “Just because there was a political election doesn’t mean it goes away.”

Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton might have lost the presidential election, but Republican Rep. Jason Chaffetz of Utah said that doesn’t mean the investigations into her conduct should be stopped.

“Just because there was a political election doesn’t mean it goes away, so of course I am going to continue to pursue that,” Chaffetz, the House Oversight Committee Chairman, told reporters, according to NBC News.
Clinton is still technically under investigation for her alleged mishandling of classified information during her time as Secretary of State. The story was one of the highlights of the presidential campaign and dogged the Democratic candidate for several months.

And Chaffetz said the investigation should continue and blasted the Democratic-led State Department for being “terribly slow and inefficient” about turning over documents for the case.

“It was potentially one of the largest breaches in security in the history of the State Department. It cannot and should not be repeated ever again,” he said. “There are still open questions that we need to finish up so they won’t happen again.”

As the House Oversight Committee Chairman, Chaffetz faces a potentially large investigation into President-elect Donald Trump’s business ties, which could pose significant conflicts of interest as he makes decisions as president.

“I will not shy away from taking a look,” Chaffetz said, according to CNN.

Chaffetz also told Fox News that even though he’s a Republican, he’s prepared to take Trump to task.

“My job is not to be a cheerleader for the president, my job is to hold them accountable, and they do not necessarily like it,” Chaffetz said. “It’s not going to be pleasant sometimes, I’m sure, I’m sure that some people will get frustrated.”
