Ronnie and Krystal started a church called Refuge in Pasco County, Florida. They knew this area had a problem with homelessness, so they wanted to do everything they could to help. They offered free hot meals and gave out essentials such as clothing and toiletries.
One day Krystal saw a toddler looking in through the window of the church. Then she noticed his baby brother in a stroller with his parents. As she worked she kept an eye on them and realized the little boy had been sat in that stroller for about 10 hours that day.
She recognized the parents as regular visitors for the free meals they handed out. She knew those kids needed help and she was determined to do something.
That night, Ronnie and Krystal watched the sky turn stormy and worried about those little boys outside in the cold. It made them feel rather guilty when they were warm and dry in their home.
They knew the parents were high and had refused to go to a shelter, so they decided to ask the parents if they could have the boys for the night, give them a bath and a night in a proper bed. The parents were quick to hand the boys over so they took them home with them. Not long later the rain started to fall heavily.
The next day they returned the boys to their parents and they thought that would be end of it, but the next morning a social worker told them that the boys were going to be taken from the parents and asked them if they would temporarily foster the children. Of course they agreed.
Now, five months later they are in the final stages of legally adopting the boys. Ronnie and Krystal often say it’s God showing he has a sense of humor as just the day before they met the boys they had been talking about how they wouldn’t have any more kids as Krystal had had to have a hysterectomy.
The boys now have a bright future with a loving family.
